From Karrin Williams Frankie (Warwick
HS - '61) of VA - 04/03/08 - "Attorney's Advice - No Charge ~~ THIS IS NOT A
JOKE. PLEASE READ. VERY IMPORTANT INFO":
ATTORNEY'S
ADVICE -- NO CHARGE
Read this and make a copy for your files in
case you need to refer to it some day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his
company. Maybe we should all take some of his advice!
1 . Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO
ID REQUIRED".
2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts,
DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put
the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the
number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all
the check processing channels won't have access to it.
3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone.
If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not
have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your
checks (DUH!). You can add it if it is necessary but, if you have it
printed, anyone can get it.
4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both
sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your
wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel.
Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport
when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about
fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security
number, credit cards, etc..
Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have first-hand knowledge because my
wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an
expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a
credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from
DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here's
some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or
someone you know.
5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately.
But the key is having the toll-free numbers and your card numbers handy so
you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.
6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your
credit cards, etc. were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were
diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is
one).
But here's what is perhaps most important of all (I never even
thought to do this.).
7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to
place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud
line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that
called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my
name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your
information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize
new credit.
By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the
theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit
checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about
before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done,
and the thieves threw my wallet a way this weekend (someone turned it in).
It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.
Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your
wallet, etc, has been stolen:
1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
2.) Experian (formerly TRW) : 1-888-397-3742
3.) Trans Union : 1- 800-680-7289
4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271
We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about
everything.
If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really
help someone.
Received the message below
from a fellow co-worker at the Corps. Hope this helps. The idea of putting
CC on hold can be good. Joe thought he lost his wallet at gas
station on Warwick Boulevard last year and after looking everywhere, called
and cancelled ALL. About two hours later, the station called and said a man
found it and turned it in to the station. All cards were there, just no
money.
Thanks Karrin!
This is great information. The only change I would suggest is not to cancel
your credit cards, but to suspend them. I was in a real estate class this
past weekend with some multi-millionaires and they taught us a lot about
credit cards, credit scores and credit history. If you suspend your credit
card, you can fix any problems that popped up and keep your good credit
score (the problems would be there anyway from the thieves), but if you
cancel your credit card, you lose all of your history with that credit card.
For example, if you only had one credit card and had an 800 credit score,
if you cancel the card, your 800 credit score would drop drastically because
you would no longer have a history associated with that card.
They also said that off-brand credit cards are viewed negatively by
creditors, loan officers and such, even though they are not officially
listed as derogatory when you look at your credit rating. If you have a
Macy's card, Dillard's, Sears, anything that does not have a VISA or Master
Card logo on it, you should close out the accounts. If you want a card in
one of these type stores or whatever, see if you can get one with a VISA or
MC logo. These cards help your credit score.
You can go to
www.Freecreditreport.com and pull your credit report for free. The main
(and most used by people that check your credit) is Experian. If you pay
$20 or so you get a full years subscription and view all of the information
on all three credit companies, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. You can
also pay $5 and they will e-mail you when there is any change to your
report, such as someone doing an inquiry for your credit history, anything
added to or removed from your score and so forth.
One last thing that comes to mind from this weekend...they look at your debt
to available credit ratio (on each card) when they adjust your credit score.
If you have more than 70% of the maximum balance on your card in use, that
is a definite negative influence...around 50/50 is OK, and if you have 30%
of under of your total on the card in use, that is a good mark for you. If
you have several credit cards with a balance on them, move the balances to a
single card, or two if you are going over the 30% mark, based on your lowest
APR of course. When they see several cards and all of them have a small
balance on them, they look at that negatively, as if you are juggling cards
instead of just carrying a small balance on them.
New credit cards effect your score negatively, but that's only 10% of the
total score. If you have new cards and it helps your available credit to
debt ratio (which is 35% of your credit score), then overall, the positive
outweighs the negative.
The best tip they said was to go in and
have your report cleaned up of anything that could be negative, and to have
them fax or e-mail you a letter of deletion for the items that they delete
so you'll have a copy for your records.
Thank you.
WOW, thanks so
much for all this valuable information, Karrin!
And I've been searching online for it for well over eight years now! As a 1956 release, it's about five years newer than I thought, (which no doubt delayed my finding it), and neither was it made in 3-D, but that is unquestionably it! There's even a trailer available:
From My Niece, Shari, of VA -
04/02/08 - "Sisters read":
Sisters
A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot
humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As they talked
about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the
obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass
thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter.
'Don't forget your Sisters,' she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the
bottom of her glass. 'They'll be more important as you get older. No matter
how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you
may have, you are still going to need Sisters. Remember to go places with
them now and then; do things with them.'
'Remember that 'Sisters' means ALL the women... your girlfriends, your
daughters, and all your other women relatives too. 'You'll need other women.
Women always do.'
What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman thought. Haven't I just
gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married
woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely my husband and the family we may
start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!'
But she listened to her Mother. She kept contact with her Sisters and made
more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,
she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was
talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries
upon a woman, Sisters are the mainstays of her life.
After more than 50 years of living
in this world, here is what I've learned:
THIS SAYS IT ALL:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between
you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by
yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you
on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and
waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you...Or come in
and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters,
sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and
extended family, all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we
began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys
or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each
other.
Every day, we need each other still. Pass
this on to all the women who help make your life meaningful.
I just did. Short and very sweet:
There are more
than twenty angels in this world. Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds.
Nine are playing. And one is reading her email at this moment.
Thanks
so much, Shari!
Little April Shower (from
Words by
Larry Morey;
Music by
Frank Churchill
Drip, drip, drop
Little April shower
Beating a tune
As you fall all around
Drip, drip, drop
Little April shower
What can compare
To your beautiful sound
Drip, drip, drop
When the sky is cloudy
Your pretty music
Can brighten the day
Drip, drip, drop
When the sun says howdy
You say goodbye right away
Drip, drip drop
Little April shower
Beating a tune
Ev'rywhere that you fall
Drip, drip drop
Little April shower
I'm getting wet
And I don't care at all
Drip, drop, drip, drop
I'll never be afraid
Of a good little
Gay little
April serenade
