07/15/04 - NNHS Newsletter - Charlie Wiggins and Judy's Father

We have two more batches of sad news today.

Charles Leonard Wiggins
NEWPORT
NEWS - Charles Leonard Wiggins, 61, passed on the 14th of July, ending a
courageous battle with cancer. He was a lifelong Peninsula resident, graduated
from N.N.H.S. in 1962. He was an Army veteran. He earned a degree from Old
Dominion University in 1967 as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from
Hampton Institute in 1973. He retired from Civil Service after 31 years. He was
a Senior Systems Analyst for Unidyne until June this year. He was rewarded with
a government patent in 1997. He was also a Master Electrician. He was a member
of Parkview Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and Chairman of
the Finance Committee. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rose Wiggins;
daughters, Charlene, Kari, Cathlene and her husband, Cory; grandchildren, Casey
and Cory Jr., all of Newport News. Besides his mother, Dorothy Wiggins, he is
also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Dees of Colonial Heights, Rebecca Wiggins
of Va. Beach, and brothers, A. James Wiggins Jr. of Prince George and Walter
Wiggins of Hampton. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. July 31, at
Parkview Baptist Church in Newport News by Rev. Biermann. Following the service,
the family will receive friends in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers,
the family request memorial contributions to be made to Relay for Life.

Sorry for not writing sooner, but Judy White (Class of '64) lost her father last week. Services were at Chestnut Memorial UMC yesterday. Judy's married name is Hoyle. Ron

Claude Mitchell White
NEWPORT NEWS -
Claude Mitchell White, 83, a native of Richmond and a Peninsula resident most of
his life, died Thursday, July 8, 2004. Mr. White retired from the C&O Railway
Company in 1977 as a Yard Conductor after 36 years of service. A member of
Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, Mr. White had served as president of
the United Methodist Men, and was a member and past president of the Men's Bible
Class. He was also a member of the Warwick Chapter, Loyal Order of Moose and the
United Transportation Union, Local #662. Preceded in death by his parents, James
Holmes White and Della Vivian White, and his brother, James Allen White, he is
survived by his wife, Velma Mays White; two daughters, Judith White Hoyle of
Yorktown, and Pamela White Hamilton and her husband, Howard Douglas Hamilton, of
Petersburg; three sisters, Willodae Sternfield and Shirley White, both of
Newport News, and Peggylou Lash of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four grandchildren,
Howard Douglas Hamilton II, Bonnie Hamilton Stefaniack, Chanon McQuoid Juhl, and
Chandler Ryan McQuoid; three great grandchildren, Joshua Hamilton Stefaniack,
Mitchell Douglas Hamilton, and Garrett Hamilton Stefaniack. The family will
receive friends Sunday, July 11, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. in Peninsula Funeral
Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 12, in Chestnut
Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Lipke officiating assisted by
Rev. Rita Staul. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorials may
take the form of contributions to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church,
1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601 or a favorite charity.
