William R. "Billy" Rhodes
HAMPTON - William R. 'Billy' Rhodes died
Sept. 17, 2004, in Mexico. Billy was born March 2, 1945, in Newport News, Va. He
graduated
from Newport News High School in 1963. He then graduated from William and Mary
and received his Doctorate from University of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, William E. Middleton, in 1996.
Survivors include his mother, Lelia Gayle Middleton of Hampton;
his wife, Lorena Rhodes, and their children, Karla and Lelia. He is also
survived by a son, Forrest Rhodes, daughter, Emily Rhodes Oxenborg, and two
grandchildren, Molly and Laurel. Other survivors include one sister, Sallie
Rhodes Beaver, and two brothers, Maury Middleton and
Troy Middleton. His funeral was held in Hermosillo, Mexico, where he resided for
the past 15 years.

Yes, Brownie, Vivian is a member of the Class of '64. Her brother, Mike, is a member of the Class of '66. I'm not sure about Troy, but I assume he was younger - possibly the Class of 1969.
Virginia Adelaide Starnes Buchanan
NEWPORT NEWS
- Virginia 'Ginny' Adelaide Starnes Buchanan, 87, passed away on Thursday, Sept.
23, 2004. A native of South Boston,
Va., she had been a Newport News resident for 59 years and retired as Office
Manager of Roane's Radio and T.V. after 15 years of service. Ginny had
previously been a nursing assistant at Duke University Medical Center, Durham,
N.C.; was a lifelong member of Parkview Baptist Church, and a member of Outreach
and the Women's Missionary Union. Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her
first husband, Troy J. Starnes Sr. and her second husband, Leonard E. Buchanan,
and parents, Nannie and George Brandon. Survivors include two daughters,
Vivian S. Calhoun and husband, Orville, of Yorktown and Loretta S. Zeitz and
husband, Richard, of Williamsburg; two sons, Michael S. Starnes and wife, Linda,
of Newport News and Troy J. Starnes Jr. of Hampton; three stepchildren, Barbara
S. Batts of Greensboro, N.C., Debbie B. Mariniak of Gloucester and Carroll
Buchanan of Hampton; two sisters, Pattie Canada and Myrtle Hare of Durham, N.C.;
13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. The
family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, at Peninsula
Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at
Parkview Baptist Church with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkview Baptist Church Building Fund,
604 Hilton Blvd., Newport News, 23605.
