A few days ago while searching for something or other, I noticed a song called, "Hopelessly Devoted to You" - which sounded intriguing, but it was from "Grease" - and I do not like "Grease" on general principles (I mean, seriously, the Bad Guys win! It don' posta happen that way!!! The Goody Two Shoes Girl should have set such a fine example that she won over the Bad Guys, but, nooooo.) But I digress....

Anyway, I listened to the tune and found it quite lovely. Then I Googled the words, and really liked them. But I was adamant (okay, stubborn).

Then last night,

Eleanor (Buckley Nowitzky - '59 - of NC) and

Adrienne (Harty - of NC) and I, having spent the entire afternoon goofing off (okay, or running errands - whatever), were watching ABC's delightful new show, "Pushing Daisies", and this song was prominently featured.

So, not having heard from either my Magic Shower or my Haunted Radio lately, I decided to use it anyway. I like such patterns when they appear.

THEN I read my evening mail, and found this extraordinarily touching note from Normie.

I thought it important to mention that news you have faithfully and tastefully reported in recent weeks -- losing so many NNHS friends and alumni -- has brought a lot of sadness. I thought it appropriate for selfish reasons that we acknowledge our classmates like Dicky Dawes (NNHS/HHS - '62 - of VA). They have devotedly cared for a spouse who was suffering from a serious illness over both short and extended periods of time, as Dicky did with his Sharron (Wanderer Dawes) (’61). It is a terribly draining experience emotionally and physically as you care for your loved one, who once was a vibrant happy helpmate, with whom you shared joys, sorrows, parents, children and grandchildren.

I have nothing but the greatest admiration for such devoted spouses, including my own Loretta (Stuttgart American HS, ’68), who has endured five years of my being carted off in an ambulance, not sure if I was going to live or die as the day/night wore on.

Our Father in Heaven has a way of being with us in these moments of crisis, either when we are the caregiver or as patient, who knows not what tomorrow will bring. October 10th is the six-month anniversary of my latest open heart surgery. For the first time in the five-year challenge, I have made this semi-annual anniversary feeling no angina, in fact a bit invigorated and dare I say, perky! I’m elated at my new “blooming” and thankful for a wife, who always had strength when the days seemed darkest. There will be a special place in heaven for such spouses.

That's because the majority of the Newsletters lately have been Memorial Editions, and the Free Mammogram button has never been incorporated on them, although it does appear on the main index page, just above the credits at the bottom.

I'm rather peculiar and protective when it comes to the Memorial Editions; I hold them sacred, and do not wish to include any other material on them which would detract from that spirit, even for so great a cause.

I did recheck the other recent editions, and could not find one which lacked the button, though if such a blooper did happen, I do apologize.

Just to let you know this weekend is our concert of 50's, 60's, and 70's music. Our instrumentalists were at rehearsal last night and the music has come together well and it is really going to be fun! With intermission I think it only lasts 1 1/2 hrs. I hope you all can make it! Hampton Roads Academy
Location: Hampton Roads Academy (HRA)

Hampton Roads Academy is located at the intersection of Oyster Point Road, Canon Boulevard, and Academy Lane.

When traveling to Hampton Roads Academy by way of Interstate 64, take exit 256A (Oyster Point Road West). Turn right at the first traffic light onto Academy Lane, then turn left into the Hampton Roads Academy parking lot. The Academic Building is on your left as you enter the parking lot; there are visitors' parking spaces in the first row nearest Oyster Point Road. The entrance is near the middle of the building between the low brick walls.

I have a bus trip going to the REDSKINS/CARDINALS football game on October 21, 2007. This is a day trip and the bus will leave from Norfolk/Newport News early in time for tail gate party. The price is $75.00 per person if you have tickets and $175.00 per person if you need tickets. Would love for some old Typhoons to make the trip.

Blake and Rena are both walking to take strides against breast cancer....and sadly so many of our classmates have been victims of this horrible disease. Thanks so much. ....and ANY amount donated is appreciated.
