11/15/06 - NNHS Newsletter - Dizzy “All the dreamers in all the world are dizzy in the noodle."
- Edie Adams |
![]() |
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I must have been even more "dizzy" myself this week than I
realized.
Al Farber ('64) of GA,
one from
Mark Friedman ('65) of VA, and
one from
Joe Madagan ('57)
of FL.
My most abject apologies, Gentlemen! But because I am not always completely averse to revisionist history when in a good and noble cause, I have inserted them into that Newsletter - along with a note to that effect on the Newsletter List - in their proper places as they should have been all along: Please take another look: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/NNHS-Newsletters-2006.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/11-11-06-NNHS-Veterans-Day.html I am so sorry! I plead - well, dizzy! |

Carol:
I remember Beck's; however, I
never went inside...probably because it was a bar and I remember walking
past this establishment as a child. We lived on Sycamore Avenue, off 19th
Street and I had to walk to Orcutt Avenue
Baptist Church almost anytime I went, with the exception of Sunday
morning. That was quite a long walk and I remember walking this route,
down 25th Street, beginning at 10 years of age. I had to do this for
choir practice, Vacation Bible School in the Summer, and other special
events that applied to me and not the rest of the family. Of course, this
was a nice area and no danger....back in the good old days. Going inside
was not a consideration as I did not know anything about the clientele.
It was located on the north side of 25th Street, across from Tidewater
Hardware.
Take care, Fred Mays '60
Thanks so much, Fred!

| Carol, | |||
| I am attaching a picture of the Buckroe Bait, Tackle & Seafood Store for 2 reasons: Buckroe seems to be of great interest to many of the newsletter family. Also, as the film needed to do my "art" form is now discontinued by Polaroid, it will be the last of 1595 pictures cataloged over the past 11 years. I am pleased that many of that number are of local places and things of interest to our generation. |

| Carol,
You might consider this a public service item, if it hasn't run across your desk before now-I received it from a friend of mine who is a grandparent...I'm sure many have children with grandchildren and would be interested to know and pass on. I hope you and yours are well! Thanks, Jimmy |
|
| ..... This may change your
mind about moving your kid from a 5 point harness to a regular booster seat
with belt... pretty devastating story...
Please take a moment to view this important video made by
parents who lost their son due to his not being in a 5pt harness. This video
has changed my mind; my 5 year old will now have a 5 point harness rather
than a regular booster seat with a seat belt.... Okay, Sweetie-Pies. As a mother of seven and grandmother of nine (not counting the several I've "adopted" along the way and consider my own), I don't think I need tell you how deeply this affected me. Please pass this site and message on to protect these precious little lambs. Thanks,
Jimmy!

It's true!
Dilemma
The following problem
has a logical solution. Take your time and work it out. You are on a horse, galloping at a constant speed. On your right side is a sharp drop off, and on your left side is an elephant traveling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is a galloping kangaroo, and your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed as you and the kangaroo. What must you do to safely get out of this highly dangerous situation?
If you do not know, see answer below.
Get your drunk butt off the merry-go-round ARGHHH!!! Ya got me, Sweetie!!! WILD GIGGLES!!!
Thanks again, Bill!

From Pat Floyd Pride ('62) of VA - 11/12/06 - "Thank you":
|
Hi Carol, I would like to thank you for all the hard work you put into keeping everyone up on all the Typhoon News. I do not know how you find the time to do it all but it is very much appreciated. Hi, Pat!!! I haven't seen you in what seems forever, but I suppose it was at your reunion in 2002..... And I find time to do all this by simply not doing anything else...... WILD GIGGLES!!!
Well, except for laundry,
perhaps. I have long been of the opinion that when life seems out of
control, stop everything and go throw in another load of laundry. It
may not improve the immediate situation, but at least there'll be clean
clothes!
And now it's November, so I'll not only have to cook a massive feast or two, but wash all the windows and curtains in the house (as I do every May and November). One down, nine to go.... But other than that, this is pretty much all I do. Well, except I seem to have agreed to take a major role in a skit for the church Christmas Party on December 2, And I do have to write and organize two musical/narrated worship services and probably direct a choir for December 17 and 24. But other than that, this is pretty much all I do. The birthday list is great and I was happy to see that someone else was born on December 31st (my birthday also) I will turn 63 and retired from the Newport News Public Schools July 1st. Congratulations!!! And thanks for giving me your birthday; I added it to our list: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/Happy-Birthday.html
I was very surprised to see how many people
from my brother's class
I was thinking about those numbers just the other day, Pat. There are 36 people posted on the Memorial Page for the Class of 1965. http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/memoriam-all.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/memoriam.html About seven of them didn't actually graduate with us. Some transferred to other schools; some dropped out, but I included them because I think they belong with us, connected irrevocably by bonds of love. There were 304 people in our graduating class. Even if you excluded those seven people from the tally, 29 out of 304 is a pretty stiff and sobering percentage.. And your brother Joe was a real Sweetie-Pie. In 2000 when I was first reconnecting with everybody after 25 years, I was so very sorry to learn of his death. I still find it hard to comprehend; I cannot even imagine the pain it brings you. Well, I must run but wanted to take a minute and tell you how much joy you bring into all of our lives with this site. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Patsy Floyd Pride (Pat) P.S. PLEASE, PLEASE do not put my senior photo on the site. As one of my fellow classmates told me at one reunion "Patsy Floyd” You sure look a heck of a lot better than you did in High School!!" GIGGLES!!! Well, I must admit, Lady, you do belong to that rare breed of people who blossomed and got better looking during the aging process! What fun that must be for you!!! Don't worry; I won't post your senior portrait! I do try not to purposely offend people, I really do! Thanks again, Pat!

I, as a voting member of the Class of 1965 and a graduate of the sacred halls of NNHS hereby declare that the monthly rate to partake of the NNHS Home Page and all its wonderful memories is $5 a month or $60 dollars a year. That’s less than you pay for a pack of cigarettes/day and much healthier for you.
That's a super idea, Charlie! Thanks - that's the figure
which keeps coming to my mind, too!
Now in that I get double pleasure from the home page I will double my rate for this year. Now of course no one is tied to my declaration; however, just think what Carol could do for us if we managed to pay just $5 a month.
You are such a Sweetie-Pie!
Thanks again, Love!
Carol, I would suggest a pass word and a temporary password for those just perusing (good for thirty days) is that feasible? That is a good thought, Charlie! The technology to institute it is so far over my head, I can't even get a bead on it, but my #6 son and current co-chief tech-rep will be home next week for holiday break. Carol, my check is in the mail. Charlie Phillips Thank
you,
My Sweet Charlie!

From My Niece, Shari of VA - 11/12/06 - "The Silent Years":
| MountainWings A
MountainWings Moment #3077 Wings Over The Mountains of Life ------------------------------------------------- The Silent Years ================= There are times when God will speak to you and then be silent for an extended period of time. Silence does not mean you have been forsaken by God. It simply means that God has spoken, and now is the time to allow the word that He spoke to germinate and come to pass. Silence is not the same as peace. Silence is the absence of noise, but peace is the presence of God! While you are going through "silent years," you should focus on inner peace. Inner peace produces outward confidence in the face of negative circumstances so that we can go forward in the assurance that even though tribulation is coming against us, we are more than conquerors over it! The Greek word for peace actually describes a spiritual equilibrium no matter whatever may seek to upset us. The biblical meaning of peace never denotes the absence of trouble. Peace is not the absence of negatives but the presence of positives. God's peace is inward and spiritual and never predicated by contrary circumstances or negative events. Poverty, sickness, death nor debt can override internal peace! Silent years should indicate a time of reflection, introspection and listening. The quieter we become, the more we hear. However, we cannot rush the silent years. Silent years are times of transition. Transition is always uncomfortable and appears to last forever. We must ENDURE the silent years! Whenever you see the word endure, it means that there is no short cut through it. It must be endured. You cannot circumvent what must be endured. We are told to ENDURE unto the end. (Matt. 24:13) We are told to ENDURE persecution and tribulation. (II Th. 1:4-10) We are told to ENDURE hardness. (II Tim. 2:1-3) We are told to ENDURE affliction. (II Tim. 4:5) We are told to ENDURE chastening. (Heb. 12:7) The key to being able to ENDURE is to see the END (ENDure). Now, here are some things for you to question during the silent years: Is my life really submitted to God? Am I submitted at home, work, church and to the government? Have I learned my lesson? What is God trying to teach me? Am I humble enough to be teachable? Has the fruit of patience been sufficiently developed in me? Do I still have an appetite for the world in me? Did I properly respond to the last thing God told me to do? Have I attained a deeper faith? Is my attitude right toward God and others? Am I harboring unforgiveness? What am I becoming? Have I sufficiently developed and matured as a person? Have I taken the time to minister to the Lord? (Acts 13:2) During your silent years you should: 1. Practice and develop your gifts. Study. 2. Clarify. Define goals. Reorder priorities. 3. Serve (even while you are hurting). 4. Trust God. 5. Pray. Your silent years should change your life! You should come out as a new person! When you come out, you should have a new level of: 1. Knowledge 2. Responsibility 3. Authority/Power 4. Faith 5. Trust Remember, problems never come to last, they only come to pass! ~by Bishop Dale C. Bronner~
Thank you, Shari!

From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 11/13/06 - "Come,
Ye Disconsolate":
| Hi Carol,
The music to the hymn "Come, Ye Disconsolate" literally gives me goose bumps. Years ago I sent someone a sympathy card and the verse was, "Earth hath no sorrow that heaven cannot heal". The recipient loved it and thanked me profusely. I did not know for years where it came from until you used that hymn in the newsletters. It amazes me how our higher power works. Well...duh...why should it amaze me? But it does and has and continues to...... Love, Jeanb Thank you, Jean. Whenever I find a Memorial edition is needed, I walk away for a few minutes, and quite often the music for the page will pop into my head. Sometimes it will be the tune; more often it will be a phrase from the hymn. This time I did not know Sister Burris, and I was more than a bit concerned that whatever I chose would be appropriate. But yesterday a phrase came into my mind quite clearly - "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal." Thank you so much for
sharing that story!

Dizzy
-
Tommy Roe, 1969
Dizzy, I’m so dizzy my head is
spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it’s You girl makin’ it spin
You're making me dizzy
First time that I saw You girl, I knew that I just had to make You mine
But it’s so hard to talk to You with fellows hangin’ round You all the time
I want You for my sweet pet, but You keep playing hard to get
I’m going round in circles all the time
Dizzy, I’m so dizzy my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it’s You girl makin’ it spin
You're making me dizzy
I finally got to talk to You and I told You just exactly how I felt
Then I held You close to me and kissed You and my heart began to melt
Girl You've got control on me,cuz I’m so dizzy I can't see
I need to call a doctor for some help
Dizzy, I’m so dizzy my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it’s You girl makin’ it spin
You're making me dizzy
my head is spinning
Like a whirlpool it never ends
And it’s You girl making it spin
You're making me dizzy
you're making me dizzy
