“Tomorrow night is nothing but one long sleepless wrestle with yesterday's omissions and regrets.”
- William Faulkner |

Dear
Friends and Schoolmates,
Once again, today's theme comes not from my Magic Shower or from my Haunted
Radio, but from these words which keep replaying in my mind (in lieu of
sleep). It must be a
message......

From RealAge Tips of the Week - 11/23/07 - "Why you should pencil in some worry time . . .":
RealAge Tip of the Day - 11/21/07:
Note to Self: Schedule Time to Worry
Make a Date with Paper
If nagging thoughts won't let you nod off, give yourself 15 minutes before
bedtime to grab some paper and a pen and jot down what's on your mind, advise
Paul Glovinsky, PhD, and Arthur Spielman, PhD, in their book The Insomina
Answer. (Browse
their book online.) They suggest listing your concerns on the left
page of a notebook and then brainstorming some solutions on the right side. And
don't shoot for perfect problem-solvers. Even temporary solutions should help
you sleep.

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to Bill Gross ('48) of VA - 11/24/07 - 11/24/07 -
"Ethel Neofitou":
Bill,
I can't stand the suspense :-D
Did you contact/find Ethel?
Dave Spriggs '64
From Bill Gross ('48) of VA to
Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 11/24/07:
Not yet, Dave, but to have her current
address for the time being is what is important. I appreciate your help.
Our reunion is not until June 14 & 15 and a cookout, if he can be
arranged, on the 13th. Once all the arrangements are complete I hope have
it posted on Carol's web site. Our class
as you know is 1948. We are getting to be a bunch of old fogies and we
have lost a large number in these 59 years. This I am sure will be our
last formal reunion. A group of us locals get together for lunch twice a
year. The last few have been at Cheer's on Thimble Shoals and you are
welcome to join us if you like. I will be happy to let you know when we
meet again.
Bill
From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to Bill Gross ('48) of VA - 11/24/07:
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the update. I was just curious if she was actually still
alive. Sometimes telephone listings persist long after the death of the
account owner. I was hoping for a confirmation that she is still with us.
Having chaired my class' 40th Reunion and "Turning 60" birthday party, I
can appreciate the effort required to locate and motivate classmates. It
is always distressing to learn of yet another old friend who has passed
away. I can also understand why, at some point, a class must no longer try
to arrange a formal reunion.
BUT, I have an idea which I will think through, commit to writing, and
send to Carol for posting and comment on the NNHS web page:
I think the younger classes should "adopt" the members of the class 20
years their senior, e.g. my Class of 1964 would adopt the Class of 1944.
We would hope to keep track of alumni and include them in all class
activities. That way they can always "have a home" , so to speak. As the
last NNHS class was 1971 (who would adopt 1951) there would be no class to
adopt the Class of 1952, At that point, the interval would decrease to 10
years, and the Class of 1962 would adopt the Class of 1952.
My objective is that no NNHS class should ever just fade away.
Whaddaya think?
Dave
Well, David,
I think you're a Super Genius with extraordinary imagination and vision, but
then, I always have!

From
Linda May Bond Crayton ('66) of VA to
From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of
RI - 11/24/07 - "Road trip":
Jean, indeed your beautiful bounty of autumn
foliage does make my feet want to dance! Riley and I lived payday to
payday. His promise to me was that when he retired we would go on weekend
safaris. We loved to discover what the world had to show us.
But he had to leave and those trips will never happen, although that promise is
the only one he did not keep, I still "want" to go each time I see fall.
Thank you for the lovely pictures.
Linda May '66
Thank
you, Linda May!

From Tom Norris (Hampton HS -
'73) of
VA - 11/24/07 - "greetings from 'da babe'":
Hey Carol ... wanted to let ya
know I'm still among the living ... haven't written in a bit ... got a bunch of
new goodies to scan and send ya. Note the new email address ...
krabba73@charter.net
... one of those that, if you have to ask, you wouldn't
understand :-)
Well ... football season is over .. and my fellow Typhoons (and Bruins,
Warriors, Phantoms, etc) at work were quick to point out that you can crush a
crab not once, not twice, but THREE times this season ... falling to Bethel and
Phoebus in the regular season and again to Phoebus in the second round of the
Eastern Region playoffs.
For Lynda Tosh ('68 - of NC) ... what part of Virginia are you moving to?
I'm heavily involved with Relay in Isle of Wight/Surry County ... we have a real
rockin' relay each year ... we'll be at Windsor High the last Friday night of
May 2008. Congrats ... love to hear another survivor success story. Donna
Nicosia Cowger (NNHS '69) is one of our top Team Captains and was in charge
of games at last year's relay. IOW/Surry won the 'Spirit Of Relay" award for
the SECOND year in a row ... and raised $6.99 per capita! Just one big family
here on this side of the James.
Here is my 'now' pic ... looks like you have a theme going ... for my baby shot
I'll have to scan one for ya ... or you can crop the pic of me on the '54 Merc.
Take care ... more later.
Da Babe
PS ... I turn 53 in two weeks ... will I ever shed 'babe' status??? :-)
Good to hear from
you again, Tom!
And even though our Alumni List has grown so extensively in the last year or so
that we have many men now who are even younger than you, I wouldn't count
on shedding that "babe" thing anytime soon. Old nicknames die hard here!

From Eva Ellis Madagan ('61) of FL - 11/24/07 - "God's Guiding Hand on Earth":
After the christening of his
baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the
car. His father asked him three times what was wrong.
Finally, the boy replied,
"That preacher said he wanted us
brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you guys."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One particular
four-year-old prayed, "And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who
put trash in our baskets."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they were on the way to church
service, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys
began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the
opportunity for a moral lesson.
"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first
pancake, I can wait.'"
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A father was at the beach with his children when the four-year-old son ran up to
him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore where a seagull lay dead in the
sand.
"Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked.
"He died and went to Heaven," the Dad replied.
The boy thought a moment and then said, "Did God throw him back down?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their
six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?"
"I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied.
"Just say what you hear Mommy say," the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these
people to dinner?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And if you don't send this to at least 8 people ----- who cares?!
Peace, love and happiness

GIGGLES - these are great! And I love that image of the blue-eyed child!
Thanks,
Eva!

Last Night I Didn't Get to Sleep at All
(The 5th
Dimension)
Last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
I lay awake and watched until the mornin' light
Washed away the darkness of the lonely night
Last night I got to thinkin' maybe I, I, I
Should call you up and just forget my foolish pride
I heard your number ringing, I went cold inside
And last night I didn't get to sleep at all
I know it's not my fault, I did my best
God knows this heart of mine could use a rest
But more and more I find the dreams I left behind
Are somehow too real to replace
Oh, last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
The sleepin' pill I took was just a waste of time
I couldn't close my eyes 'cause you were on my mind
And last night I didn't get to sleep, didn't get to sleep
No, I didn't get to sleep at all
[break]
But more and more I find the dreams I left behind
Are somehow too real to replace
Oh, last night I didn't get to sleep at all no, no
The sleepin' pill I took was just a waste of time
I couldn't close my eyes 'cause you were on my mind
And last night I didn't get to sleep, didn't get to sleep
No, I didn't get to sleep at all
No, no, no
No, no, no
Last night I didn't get to sleep at all, no, no
Oh, last night I didn't get to sleep at all (oh, oh)
