Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

If you're wondering what happened, that makes two of us. I managed to "break" my email account just before sending out the
announcement of that last Newsletter on the 24th. Whether you received notification of it or not, I've no idea. The good news
is - all is back up and running now. Without email, it was a very quiet holiday weekend indeed, I must tell you!

Carol, I have read the reunion notes and it looks as if everyone has a great time. I have a couple of things to pass on.

1. Someone said they'd eaten at Angelo's which was a Sammy and Nick's knock off. that's not exactly true. For many years,
Sammy Canavos helped many others come here from Greece. In every event, he opened a new restaurant called Sammy and ___'s. there have been Sammy and Steve, Sammy and Nick, Sammy and Angelo, Sammy and everybody. When the immigrant got
financially able, he bought Sammy out. This happened in every case. Many have retained the Sammy and ____ name but Angelo,
who married one of Sammy's sisters, just became Angelos. So it isn't a knock off; it is a real McCoy. Sammy died of leukemia
about 18 months ago and it was a very sad time for many people on the Peninsula. He had truly helped many people and he is missed.

2. I could kick myself for not recommending that the reunion group take a field trip to RJ's Sports bar. RD and I go there
on Saturdays when the UT gems isn't on national TV channels because they have the ESPN College Game Ticket and show all games
that are on anywhere. Anyway, there has been chatter in the news letter about an NNHS sports hall of fame and where it could be. Save the trophies, it already exists on the walls at RJ's. I think RJ is Richard Jones, an NNHS grad. The walls are literally
covered with the Daily Press photos of NNHS athletes from many years back. There may be 1,000 photos, all framed and
annotated. I don't think may locals even know about the place; we only discovered it because of the football satellite program.
When I first went there about 5 years ago, I hardly watched the game because I was so enthralled with the photos. I told Rd I
was reliving my high school years looking at those pictures. So, for anyone local or anyone coming back soon, RJ's is in a shopping center on Jefferson Avenue at the intersection of Denbigh Boulevard. You turn into the shopping center before you get to the Denbigh intersection. There's a Hooter's on the left just before you turn right. As you drive in, there's a big box store that
was a grocery on the right and the strip shopping center shops stretch out to the left. RJ's in right in the notch where the big
box ends and the shops start. They have many TVs and during football season, they put a logo below each set. The group wanting
to see that game gathers at the tables in that area. They have 2 big screens and the largest gathering group gets their game
on one of them. They do a repeat on Sunday with NFL games. The bar tender is an Alabama fan but she keeps up with all the
SEC teams and knows all her customers, who they root for and what they like. It is an amazing place on a college football
Saturday. So maybe some of our classmates will plan a trip home next fall. They can check on Mom and Dad, see a few sights
and go to RJ's for their favorite college football action on Saturday. But they'd better arrive an hour early so they can tour
the photos! Make that an hour and a half!

Thanks for setting the record straight!

Bobby and Dawn Yevak took Paul and me by to visit R.J.'s two years ago when we drove up together to see David Ellenson's ('65
of NY) speech at CNU. We spent a delightful while there, and I hawked it pretty heavily upon our return. That, of course, was two years
ago, and long before we even had an "Our Old Stomping Grounds" section on the site. We'll need to correct this oversite, for while it probably wasn't an "old" stomping ground for the majority of us, it certainly should be visited now.

As much as a multitude of people would love for me to leave VA., I have yet to make such a move. And it is true, as I have shared
this information. with you before, at one time the maternal side of my family OWNED nearly 3/4 of NC, I have yet to move there!
By the time it "got to me" they'd sold it all!!

Forget it, forget it, if I make mention of that GLOWING MISTAKE, I mean slight oversight, listed in your last (for real MOST appreciated newsletter) then that would be tantamount to me admitting that I wrote something that I've already lied about! I mean, one must have
some honor, you can only lie about the same thing once, that's the rules. So, therefore I can not correct the placement of my being as
still in VA as opposed to NC as listed.

And by the way, we're one up on ya...we're more thankful for you than you could ever be for us! You bring us joy, we bring you work!

Yes it is the same beach that Sunny Chapin ('65) had her party on. I was there. Howard Conn ('65 of CA) was there.
Who came with Sunny? I don't remember. It was fun. She and I were close friends. Yes! She came to see me the summer
after we graduated. We went to the same beach to swim. Frank (Blechman - '65 of Northern VA) came by. I got sun burned.
Sunny, too. Don't know about Frank. It was a great, fun day. I'm sad to say that I never got to Michigan to visit her. We
wrote for a few years. I heard she married an artist. Her mother was an accomplished artist in many mediums. She also
made lace.

There was another beach area up further near George's house, too. All of the sandy areas we enjoyed are gone. So sad.

Well, the turkey is done, the dressing ready to put in the oven and cook books are spread all over the kitchen table. The feast
process has begun!

Awwww, Frances - I just KNEW you were going to confirm that! That explains why I didn't see that beach on my last several trips
to Newport News. It doesn't even exist! I still don't know how a beach can be made to disappear - and I hope I never find out. Some
things are better off never to be learned.

WOWZERS! You never get tired of cooking?!? Now THAT'S impressive! I never get tired of crocheting, but COOKING???
Hmmm.

Okay, I must admit I did enjoy it this holiday. Having decided to go ahead and make a mini-feast anyway, I had great fun. I baked
a ham, developed a new recipe for Southern Dressing, made my daddy's Spoon Bread, his mother's Cranberry Salad, Scalloped Corn,
Colonial Innkeeper's Pecan Pie with my Never-Fail Pie Crust, and threw in some dinner rolls. Adrienne made the Green Bean Casserole,
Stuffed Dates, and some sugar-free lemonade (all recipes available on request - HA-HA-HA-HA!).

Eleanor and Miles had been ill with that super nasty flu so they were not able to "get outta Dodge" to visit their children, so we
persuaded them to come have dinner with us at 6:00 PM. So then there were five of us, and it was fun and relaxing and stress-free.

getting ready to go to Saunders for the game (even year ... we are the 'away' team). We're undefeated .... think  we'll

In response regarding my previous posting--YES that was Steve Corum ('62)!!!! I spelled the last name wrong. Yes, I did
have good taste as a 6-year-old - ha - believe in the yearbook, he was voted best looking his senior year.....political correctness
what it is today - they don't even do that anymore! Have you ever heard from Steve Corum? (I recall Steve (Kiger -'66) got
'best all around' (now my 17-year-old son is just like him!)

Gail, if I ever personally heard from the incredibly gorgeous Steve Corum, I'd probably pass out even at this late date! However,
according to the 1997 35th Reunion Booklet for the Class of 1962 (thanks again, Jimmy-Jimmy!), Steve was living in Mobile, AL.

No more Halls of Fame??? Oh, the humanity!

With my wife out of town for the holiday (leave to burn) and poor me with only one day off (I own a business), I decided
to travel to NN to share Thanksgiving with my sister Debbie ('72) and my friend Flores Williams ('66). So out of Northern
Virginia I go (did you ever wonder why they call it "Northern" Virginia?) headin' south on the super slab, well sort of. I had
to bail out at Rt. 17 and took the long way home. This would be with cruise control. We met at Flo's home off King Street
in Hampton, near Smitty's Drive In. Soon after arriving, I received a cell call with a PA area code. It was Lee Cook ('66),
but he was also in Hampton near Chesapeake Boulevard visiting his brother Bobby ('69). We invited them over, as we were
preparing to eat, and since Bobby's wife, Mickie (Settles -'66), was an hour behind our schedule with their meal. What a
special surprise this was. We spent a wonderful time together reminiscing about the past. The Cook's and I were Briarfield
boys and Flo was reared both in east and north ends. We covered a lot of territory in too short of a time. I was thinking that
not too many years had passed (?) when I would have been at Darling Memorial Stadium for the turkey day game, but Bobby's
cell phone rang; he was late and his turkey was done!!! What a grand time we had: it was warm inside, it was very cool and windy
outside, and I was surrounded by old friends. I felt like we should have been at the football game. We parted, promising
to renew our friendships, exchanging #'s and addresses, and I realized what had just taken place: A Typhoon Thanksgiving
Reunion. Just wanted to share that!
