“Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us."

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This observance - and this theme - repeats each year:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/12-31-04-NNHS-Happy-New-Years-Eve.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/12-31-05-NNHS-Happy-New-Years-Eve.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/12-31-06-NNHS-Happy-New-Years-Eve.html
Last year I
opened with these words, which still work for me: We've come
to the end of the year, and like any year, it has been filled with joys and
sorrows, pleasure and pain, births and deaths, exultations and devastations,
bliss and betrayals. In short, it has been full of Life. I hope
as you reflect back upon it, that you find it brought you more happiness
than grief, and that your hearts are warm tonight.

REQUEST:
From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 12/30/07
- "
Gilmore Kirby '64":
Fellow Typhoons: My Classmate, Gilmore Kirby ’64, passed away on 25 November 1998. An old Army buddy of his recently learned of his death by searching the Internet and landing on our NNHS web site. They had not been in contact since 1968.
I was contacted by the buddy and asked if I knew the cause of death. I replied that I did not, but I offered to query the Alumni in hopes that someone does know. If you have this information, please e-mail me at nnhs64@cox.net.
Dave Spriggs ‘64
This is definitely worth trying, David. Surely someone knows.
"Anyone? Anyone?"
Just to cover all bases, I cross-posted your note here:

Thank you, Captain!

UPDATE:
From
Glenn Dye
('60) of TX - 12/28/07 - "THANK YOU
FROM GLENN":
Just want to first thank you all for your prayers. I am home now with my pacemaker. It seems to be working alright. I am a little sore from the incision but I feel better. I am not to use my left arm as far as lifting it up above my head for about 2 weeks. My wife says I can vacuum with the right hand. Ha! Ha!
Go back to doctor after the 2 weeks for another evaluation. Happy New Year to all of you and your families.
Glenn Dye
What
wonderful news, Glenn! Thank you so much for letting us know! Our
continued prayers go with you for a swift and total recovery!

12/29/07 - "2008 CONTRACT":
My Wish for You in 2008
May peace break into your house and may thieves come to steal your debts. May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet of $100 bills. May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips! May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires and may happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy. May the problems you had forget your home address! In simple words ............
May 2008 be the best year of your life!!!
Thanks, Jerry
- and Shari!
Happy New Year!

early 1900's.....it's interesting!...and I thought you would like to take a look
at it.
Thank you, Janice!
This is a great site, and we've run it several times
before, but it bears repeating. Happy New Year, Lady!

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 12/29/07
- "NN/NNHS Blog":
Carol,
There has been some recent talk about creating a BLOG in order to relieve you of
some of the Newsletter burden.
There currently exists a BLOG which may partially serve that purpose ... at
least for the "do you remember?" discussions. It may be less suited to the other
social functions of your newsletter, e.g. deaths, recipes, grandchildren, etc.
Here is a link to the most current entry of the existing 324 (as of this
writing). You can navigate backwards in time to read the earlier entries:
http://www.topix.net/forum/source/hampton-roads-daily-press/TVS9N1R3HFUBS2VK8/p17#lastPost
My cousin, Vicki Linkous Sterling clued me in to it. She has been posting there,
and she told me that your NNHS web site (Old
Stomping Grounds) has been mentioned there. Not surprising.
Anyway, the subscribers may be interested to know of its existence.
D
David, once again, you are my hero! My darling
#2 Daughter-in-Law,
Bethany (Winona Harty
- Siuslaw HS, OR - '94) of OH
showed me how to make a blog, and we even sorta launched it, but I really didn't
know how to begin it or attach it or utilize it or separate it or much of
anything, and she had to leave before we nailed all of that down.
http://www.nnhs65.blogspot.com/
This
is GREAT news for me! It gives me some thinking time
before I have to actually make a move. Thanks so much,
Brown Eyes!
Happy New Year!

little, but it is very nice.
OH, GOODY! Aren't we posta cry on New Year's Eve?!?
Thanks,

Well, now we can cry some more.
Thanks
again, Lady!
Happy New Year!

From
Bill Campbell
('54) of VA - 12/30/07 - "Freedom":
You
know, Bill, I had never quite thought of it that way. I had
known from earliest childhood when I first began watching WWII documentaries -
particularly Victory at Sea - with
my daddy, the late Robert
Buckley (John Marshall HS - '25), that such words seemed perfectly natural
at that time, and those same words grate on the nerves now, but I hadn't
realized it was even more a case of putting things in their proper historical
perspective than simply evolving with time. And I , too, deplore the
profanity, vulgarity, disrespect, and rude behavior that is so commonplace these
days. Not everything changes for the better.
Thanks so much for your insights,
Sweetie!
Happy New Year!

Auld Lang Syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne?
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine
But we've wander'd mony a weary foot
Sin' auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl't in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin' auld lang syne.
And surely ye'll be your pint stoup
And surely I'll be mine
And we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne.
