Dear Classmates,

There is no point in denying it … it is time for our 40th reunion.  Your Reunion Committee has been formed, and
plans are ongoing for a glorious gathering of fun, food, libations, dancing to Golden Oldies, catching up, and the
telling (and re-telling) of old stories.

We have scheduled our reunion for Friday and Saturday, the 21st  and 22nd  of October 2004,  at the Point Plaza
Suites Hotel, 950 J. Clyde Morris, Blvd., Newport News VA 23606.  The Point Plaza is located just north of the I-64
and Route 17 interchange, Exit # 258 . We have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at a
special NNHS rate of $69.00 for a regular room, $79.00 for an efficiency room, or $99.00 for a suite (plus tax) per
night. You must make your reservation NO LATER THAN September 30, 2005 to receive this rate.
Call 1-757-599-4460.  In order to receive the special rate, you must clearly say "NNHS 65 Class Reunion" when
making the reservation. Because of this requirement, it is recommended that you NOT make these reservations
over the Internet.   Mark that weekend on your calendars and come join us for a grand time. While many details are
yet to be finalized, we wanted to provide you with as much information as we have right now.

You Can’t Do Anything Without Money

One thing we’ve certainly learned since leaving the hallowed halls of Newport News High School is that you can’t do anything without money.  Several of your classmates have already made generous donations to our class treasury and are challenging all alumni to do likewise. While your reunion reservation payments will cover event expenses, additional donations will permit us to plan some extra surprises and maintain a comfortable balance in the treasury after all final 40th reunion expenses have been paid.  Additionally, this will provide funds for mailings and other events through 2010 and for start-up expenses for the 45th reunion in 2010.  More importantly, these funds will enable us to provide modest and completely confidential financial assistance, if necessary, for classmates who might not otherwise be able to attend our reunion.  Donations in any amount will be greatly appreciated and will remain anonymous, if you wish. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Please make your checks payable to "NNHS CLASS OF 1965".

FRIDAY NIGHT.  We are planning an informal party (casual attire) on Friday night, October 21st, from 7 PM t
o midnight. All NNHS Alumni are welcome to attend. There will be a cash bar and complimentary light hors d’oeuvres.
We didn't want a loud band or DJ getting in the way of re-acquaintances and conversation, so we chose to set up our
own sound system with oldies CDs; you can even bring your own favorite CDs to play … just enough volume to set the
mood, but not so loud as to inhibit conversation.

SATURDAY NIGHT.  Saturday night, October 22nd, 7 PM - midnight will be a more dressy affair. (Suggested: coat
and tie for gentlemen;  dresses or pants suits for ladies … but above all be comfortable and have fun).  ALL NNHS
Alumni
are welcome to attend.  There will be a cash bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres  . After dinner, we will have a
program of memories and remembrances, followed by dancing to 50s and 60s Golden Oldies.  Please notice that
we really would like to have multiple classes represented.  By the nature of our high school we were all mixed together,
and seeing old friends from several years is great fun.

NNHS WEB SITE.    Our own Carol Buckley Harty, NNHS 1965, has created a truly amazing web site which is a
“must visit” for all things Typhoon. While it was created for the Class of 1965 Carol has opened it up to embrace all the
Typhoon classes (and even some of those Crabber people and other schools).  There you will find hours of wonderful
memories compiled by Carol and her army of content submitters.  Also, she will be posting the most current reunion
information for our class.  The web site is certainly the best place to find out what is going on and to receive updates.
Be sure to visit and give yourself plenty of time to look around:

PERSONAL & INSTITUTIONAL ADS. (Or a "Not-So-Shameless" request for money).  We are selling ads to help
defray the cost of printing items for the reunion and a directory to be mailed following the reunion.  If you would like
to have your business card included in the Directory, please send us your card and a check for the $35.00 advertising
fee. If you have already made a donation of $50.00 or more (not your reservation costs), and wish to send us a business
card, we will place it in the directory and send you a receipt for tax purposes.  A Sub-Committee will be selling larger
institutional ads to local businesses. If you are interested in a larger ad, please contact any Committee Member.

REUNION SURVEY.  Please complete and return the enclosed Survey as soon as possible in order to help us
with our planning. Remember … it is NOT a commitment, merely an indication of your intentions. We must calculate
your reservation fee based on the expected number of attendees, and we must do it fairly soon. The more of you who
tell us now that you are attending, the lower will be the cost for everybody; if you wait until the last minute, it unnecessarily
drives the cost up for everybody. You may mail the survey to Class of 1965, 153 Exmoor Court, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
Do it as quickly as you can, but having it by April 25 will be of great help to the committee.  Please return the Survey,
even if you cannot attend the Reunion.

MISSING CLASSMATES.  Despite exhaustive searches by your Committee, we still have Classmates for whom we
either do not have or cannot confirm an address. So, we are soliciting your help in locating them.  If you know of someone
from the class that either does not have e-mail, or doesn’t usually want to receive unsolicited mail, please pass on the
information to them.  We’re sure they would like to know about the reunion.  Our goal is to contact and invite each and
every one of our living classmates.

Best Wishes from your 1965 Reunion Committee:
