UFO Sightings of the 70s

Carol,

This may be a bit off topic for 1965 but does concern Newport News in the 1970s.

Does anyone remember the mass UFO sightings around the downtown area during morning commute back in the 70s?
I think this was pre-Stealth bomber intro but believe this one made no noise and was seen by many all at once.

As I moved to southeast Missouri in May of 1971 and remained in the Midwest until December of 2001,
I missed this entire scene. But I know the last time you asked, "Hey, does anybody remember ____?",
we had one of the largest outpouring of responses ever received from a single question, Eric!

I can hardly wait to read the responses on this one! All my life I've searched the heavens in hopes
of spotting a UFO. They probably won't visit or abduct me because they think I am an alien, and they're
trying to study human behavior. Sigh.

First of all, I remember very well the UFO sightings downtown in the '70's. It was very odd indeed, as
almost all of them (speaking from personal experience, the sightings that I can personally attest to)
were either directly overhead or right in the path of my car as I left the Blue Lite each night.

Of course, I first thought it may possibly have been the result of the famous nickel pitcher(s)-o-beer,
or the Annie Green Springs wine that I had sipped, so using the scientific method I learned right
in the classrooms of NNHS, I conducted my experiment. Night after night, I switched up, Bali-Hai
first, then pitcher-o-beer, then Annie G.S.. The following night would be pitcher(s)-o-beer, THEN
Annie G.S., & Bali-Heave, uh, Hai. Alas, I was wrong, it didn't matter which way I got drunk,
THEY WERE STILL THERE!

That's how I know they were real.

I haven't seen them since I stopped drinking, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. I have a buddy
who still bends the elbow occasionally, and he swears he sees them too! More proof. Had I not made
an oath to the occupants of the (now) IFO's, I would tell you of my abduction and subsequent uncovering
of a Gov't plot to, oops, dang, sorry, I made an oath.

I thought I was the only one who drank Bali Hai......didn't it come in huge bottles?

My UFO sighting, or more like a lighting, came when a girlfriend and I headed to the Checkmate one night,
and we were on Mercury Boulevard getting close to the Langley Circle area. All of a sudden, there was
a bright light above us. Of course, we were craning our necks to see what it was, although I could only
crane so much since I was driving. Then the light was gone. We talked about it for years after
that, but never knew anyone else who saw it.
