Carol, I would like to know if there is anyone out there that was a member of Boy Scout Troop 11 at the Methodist Church. 
The location was at Orcutt Avenue. 
The scoutmaster was Herbert Gillis, and some of the people I remember in the troop were Steve Gillis (’61), Ricky Phelps.   
If there is I would like to hear from them. 
This would have been along the years of 1955 to about 1958.

You’d think as the mother of six Eagle Scouts, one of whom is now a Senior District Executive with the BSA in Oregon,
that I would know the answer to this question, but I don’t. 
I am confused about the church, however. 
There was an Orcutt Avenue Baptist Church, and a Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church,
but I do not know which troops they sponsored.

   Also most of our roster is comprised of guys who would barely be cub scouts during the years in question,
but they may have had older brothers involved during that period. 
In searching for more clues, according to my records, Steve Gillis attended Ferrum College,
which is a Methodist sponsored institution – which may be totally irrelevant.

   It may be possible for my #2 son to track this down through scout records. 
I’ll ask him.  Meanwhile, I do know that some of y’all out there were involved in scouting. 
If you could pass along the name of your troop and its meeting place,
we’d be one step closer in solving this mystery for Glenn.  Thanks, guys!

Carol, you are right.  The Methodist Church was my church:  Chestnut Avenue Methodist. 
Orcutt Avenue Baptist was my cousin's (Ray Stinnette - '63) church. 
I was not a member of BSA at my church, but I was a member of Troop 45 (2nd Presbyterian)
next to the Little League Field, across the street from Magruder Elementary. 
Your pal, Bob Norris ('62), was Senior Patrol leader at Troop 45, before he "aged-out" and I took over. 
We weren't very good scouts but we had a ton of fun!

I believe Paul Moses ('63), the cornet player, with the '55 green Chevy, was a member of troop 11... 
He also attended the church, as did Jerry Zoumplis ('61) who may also have been a member of Troop 11.

Troop 11 did meet at the church.

That is neat!  They might wish to contact the local BSA council.  
They can find out that council by visiting the National website at www.scouting.org and then do a zip code search. 
There might be a way to find some history there.
