Gerald Chris "Jerry" Zoumplis

- Gerald C. "Jerry" Zoumplis, 62, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 7, 2005, at
home. Jerry was a
native and lifelong resident of Newport News. He graduated in 1961 from Newport
News High School where he played
trumpet in the high school band. He founded Two Peppers Productions and
immensely enjoyed working in his business.
Jerry produced local television shows such as Club Vision, The Vibe, and Two
Peppers TV. He was previously employed
as Sports Information Director for Hampton University; he worked for Murray &
Dischinger, and also worked for The Daily
Press. Jerry loved music and had played the bugle in the Virginia Gentlemen Drum
and Bugle Corps through the American
Legion Post 25. He had previously been an instructor for the Young Americans
Bugle Corps, which he truly enjoyed. He
was a member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News and
served as an usher. Over the years,
he was very active in the church, coaching various youth athletic teams and
working with the Appalachian Service Project.
He was also involved in a small group at Crossroads Community Church in Yorktown
and made many friends there as well.
Everyone who knew Jerry loved him. He always had a sense of humor no matter what
he faced in this life. He is survived
by his mother, Jeanette R. Zoumplis, one brother, Nowell J. Zoumplis and his
wife, Anna, and a niece, Angela Zoumplis, all
of Newport News, a nephew, Dorian Zoumplis and his wife, Shannon, of
Gaithersburg, Md. He also leaves to cherish his
memory many, many friends and coworkers. Family and friends may assemble at 1
p.m. on Sunday, March 13, at Chestnut
Memorial United Methodist Church, 1024 Harpersville Road. Funeral services will
be held at the church at 2 p.m. that day.
Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, in Peninsula Memorial
Park. Contributions can be made to the
Jerry Zoumplis Memorial Fund at any Peninsula Towne Bank. Peninsula Funeral Home
is in charge of the arrangements.

| Ouch. I am
crushed to powder. Jerry Zoumplis ('61) was one of my best friends at NNHS,
together with Kenny Lipscomb ('63), Chuck Lilly ('63), and Max Bartholomew
('65). Kenny and I prevailed on Jerry to come to the '63 reunion with us,
and we enjoyed some great fellowship together. I'm glad to hear he made it
to the '64 reunion. Lorraine and I enjoyed dinner with Jerry on several occasions when visiting NN. Jerry was one of the nicest guys I ever knew. He never had a harsh word for anyone, and he had the best sense of humor in the Universe. It took a lot to get Jerry mad. On the rare occasion when we could needle him into anger, it was comical, because he just couldn't do "mad" very well! When I bought a motorcycle without my mother knowing it Jerry let me hide it at his house. He was a true friend and a great guy. May God bless his family in this time of grief. Craig |

hear about my friend Jerry's death. What a shock! He was such a good buddy
in band, journalism on Beacon and in years after school. I trust God will be
