Marcia Wasserman Lawrence

HAMPTON - Marcia Wasserman Lawrence, passed away peacefully at her home on July 29, 2004, after a long illness with cancer with family and friends at her bedside. She graduated from Newport News High School Class of 1968. She worked for 10 years at the Virginia National Bank before joining the Verizon staff as an operator. She retired last month after more than 20 years of service with Verizon. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Martin 'Wes' Lawrence; one son, Wesley Lawrence of Beaufort, N.C.; one grandson, Aaron Lawrence of New Bern, N.C.; her mother, Cecelia Wasserman, and a brother, Ellis Wasserman and his wife, Shirley, both of Newport News; one sister, Ilene Dillard of Hayes, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Jane Martinez and her husband, Marty, of St. Charles, Mo., and Emily Needs of San Antonio, Texas; one brother-in-law, Tim Lawrence and his wife, Dawn, of Beaufort, N.C.; and many wonderful family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 1, at the W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, in the Garden of Wisdom, Peninsula Memorial Park. At Marcia's request, in lieu of flowers, send all donations to the Aaron W.
