NEWS - Shirley Ann Gilliam, 67, a native and lifelong resident of Newport News,
died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at her home after a long and courageous battle with
cancer. A homemaker, she was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mrs. Gilliam
was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lucille and Coy Riddle; a
brother, William Charles Riddle; and her beloved canine 'Dusty.' She is survived
by her husband of 48 years, Willie Calvin Gilliam Jr. ; a daughter, Tammie Lynn
Morris and her husband, Donnie; four sons, Willie Calvin Gilliam III and his
wife, Cindy, Michael Freed Gilliam and his wife, Kaye, Jeffery Scott Gilliam and
his wife, Judy, and Timothy Lee Gilliam, all of Newport News; nine
grandchildren, Lindsay Morris, Jessica Schenk, Krystal and Jonathan Gilliam,
Steven, Jennifer and Ashley Gilliam, Joshua and Thomas Gilliam; and her
great-granddaughter, Morgan Gilliam. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8
p.m. Monday evening in Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be
conducted by the Rev. James Weston of Menchville Baptist Church at 11 a.m.
Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The
family would like to thank all the nurses associated with the Riverside Hospice
Program.
