Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.
![]()
From Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally ('68) of VA - 06/19/07 - "Sad news":
Carol,
I saw in today's Daily Press that
Harry Eugene Walling passed Sunday, June 17. He went by "Gene" and lived
across from the Mays on Sycamore Avenue. I believe he was in the class of
1962 (or '63). He married Kitty Clark in '62, I believe. I understand
that they have been divorced maybe 10 years or so. There was a very nice current
picture of him with the obit. Just thought you would want to know, but I guess
you will get several e-mails letting you know.
Hope things and better and the skies are brighter.
NNHS forever,
Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally '68
I'm so sorry to hear this, Elizabeth. I actually read this notice yesterday and again early this morning, and knew in my heart it was Gene, but refused to even check to verify it, as if my failure to do so would render it not a reality. When no one reported it yesterday, it gave me hope it was someone else. Even though it was a shock, thank you so much for letting us know.
I always remember with a chuckle what Gene submitted to the 1962 Reunion Committee back in 1997 for their 35-Year Reunion Booklet:
"...I like hunting, fishing, and chubby-legged women."

Gene was the first person to ever
take me hunting and fishing! He taught me how to shoot a rifle and set a
hook to fish. I will never forget the times he took me and Bruce to Pete's
place in Gloucester! Gene is in a better place now either rowing his canoe,
sitting in a tree stand, or wading in a stream fly fishing. If he could have
have traveled with Lewis and Clark discovering America he would have done
it!! Gene was definitely an outdoorsman. I will never forget his old Dodge
Van, Model A Ford, his hawk, Booger the dog and the food he cooked and
brought to Mom's at Christmas. Rest Easy, Big Brother! I Miss You Man! Bill, Faye, Amanda, and Chelsea Dutton |

Gene was my favorite uncle
growing up. He always had a great story to tell, always had a smile on his
face and was a happy-go-lucky kind of person. He always kept a positive
outlook on everything, even when he was sick. He will be missed by everyone that had the chance to be a part of his life. Rest in peace, Uncle Gene, you will be sorely missed by us all. |

| Dear Wally, My heart was saddened today with the news of your passing. I remember the first time I met you and how you let me win at playing pool (which between you and I we both know I won). You came into my life when I thought know one would ever make a difference in my life again. You made me laugh and you wiped my tears just when needed. Me, you and Waddles took many road trips and we always had a Large Time. I could write a book on our time together. I miss and will always love you. You remained my friend in heart and soul. There can not be enough words to express my feelings for you, your friends and family. I miss you and I miss you all, Wayne and Nancy, Tom and Denise, Susie, Carolyn and the whole family. Wally, I will miss you greatly and my love and sincerest condolences to you all. My chicken and dumplings will always be made with you in mind. |

From Cheryl Mays Howard ('66) of VA - 06/19/07 - "
Gene
Walling":
I thought this was the NN Gene
Walling but when it said native of CO, I was not sure.
He lived on the same side of Sycamore Avenue, a few houses down from us. I
remember him because
Linda
Waterfield (Kenney - '66 - of VA) had a crush on him. I know she thought he
and Kitty (Clark) were a cute couple. He had a new Mustang with the round
window in the back when he was dating Kitty. We thought that was so neat.
I was sad to hear of his death.
Peace & Blessing,
Cheryl
Thank you, Cheryl.

From Pat Floyd Pride ('62) of VA - 06/27/07:
..... I am sure you already know about our (’62)
classmates passing last week,
Gene Walling. We are all still shocked from
that one. Gene was always so witty; he was kind of like the person you thought
would be around forever, if you know what I mean.
Yes, Pat, I do indeed. Thank you.

This Is My Father's World
Words by Maltbie D. Babcock, 1901
Traditional English Melody (Terra Beata), arranged by Franklin L.
Sheppard, 1915
This is my Father’s world, and to
my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.
This is my Father’s world, dreaming, I see His face.
I ope my eyes, and in glad surprise cry, “The Lord is in this place.”
This is my Father’s world, from the shining courts above,
The Beloved One, His Only Son,
Came—a pledge of deathless love.
This is my Father’s world, should my heart be ever sad?
The lord is King—let the heavens ring. God reigns—let the earth be glad.
This is my Father’s world. Now closer to Heaven bound,
For dear to God is the earth Christ trod.
No place but is holy ground.
This is my Father’s world. I walk a desert lone.
In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known.
This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam
Whate’er my lot, it matters not,
My heart is still at home.
