Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I know that
there are those who think that
Labor Day means an end
to summer, but autumn doesn't officially end this year until September 23,
so we still have time to play these great Beach Boys classics, located for
us by our Wizard of Wonderment,
Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA.
Nobody does it better! Thanks again, Brown Eyes!

REQUEST:
| If
anyone knows where to locate Jean Hooker Hanson (Hampton HS - '64),
we've received an inquiry concerning her. She was last known to have
been somewhere in TX. She had a brother, Richard Hooker,
who attended NNHS; I do not know if he was
younger or older than she, as I cannot seem to find him in the 1955 - 1966
Anchors. (That proves absolutely nothing, of course. We all know
I could be staring directly at his photo and not see it).
If you know where to reach
either of them, please contact me so that I may relay that information.
Thanks!

"Suggestion for your site":
| Hey, I was just
looking at a site that someone at one of the message boards I visit set up.
Essentially, it is a map of the world, and users enter a bit of information
to indicate where they live. Then, you get a map that looks kind of like
this: http://www.frappr.com/yldsmembermap I thought you and your classmates/viewers of your site would get a kick out of one for your site. Love ya, talk to ya later. WOWZERONI-ROONI-RINI, Nathaniel! This is sooooo cool! Thanks for setting it up for me as well!
Okay, Sweetie-Pies, where
are those herald trumpets?!? This represents the first of several
interactive sites we have in mind for the site
- other than the Guest Book, of course. |

From My Sister, Eleanor Buckley
Nowitzky of NC - 09/10/06 - "New Credit Card Scam":
| This person who sent this is
one of my relatives. I think it's worth your time to read it. Eleanor New Credit Card Scam ... Snopes.com says this is true. See this site - http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday fro m "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from "Master Card". The scam works like this: Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona ?" When you say "No", the caller continues with, "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?" You say "yes". The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. "Do you need me to read it again?" Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?" After you say No, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richardson of Master Card" with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each other, we protect each other.
YOWZERONI-RINI!!!
The crooks just keep getting smarter, don't they?!? Thanks,
Lady!

Joe Drewry
Hi, Joe!
This gets weirder and
weirder. I was just about to write you to tell you that I've recently
learned that AOL will not send its subscribers emails when they're bundled
within batches of 50-60 --- which, of course is how I send mine. But you
received that one!
Who knows?!?
You've NEVER been off my mailing list. I'm stumped.
Thanks,
It must be some weird AOL thing?

I think this
time it is, Joe. I mean,
I'm weird, but
not that weird!

Hi Carol, Hope things are good with you & wanted to update you on my new email address: bettybelanger@verizon.net You may have already heard that we moved from N VA to Plano , TX —a Dallas suburb, in late May. We’d lived in our last house 10 years, so it was a challenge—but know you completely understand the moving thing! We’re really enjoying it here & have friends & family in the area, but expect to return to VA to visit family. We’ll have a change of seasons here, but not really long, cold winters as we did in Ashburn, so that’s going to be most welcome. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping our class connected & have a great day! Best wishes, Betty Bass Belanger Well, no, Betty, I'd missed that news flash! Congratulations on your new home! I changed your listings in my files, and your postings on the Contact page for the Class of 1965: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/contact-ALL.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/contact-B.html

"SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT":
|
I received the following from a friend and would like to pass it on as food for thought. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television. "I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia : one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option," Costello said. Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off. Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off," he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It or Leave it. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians." "However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct' crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia ." "However, there are a few things that those who have recently com to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand." "This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle." "This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom" "We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!" "Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right; wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture." "We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us." "If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go," then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others. "This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.'" "If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted."
Chandler Nelms Thank you,
Chandler Darlin'!

From Ron Miller ('59) of NC - 09/11/06:
|
Carol -- you may have published Charles
Schultz' philosophy before -- can't remember:
Oh, I
believe I may have once or twice, but it certainly bears repeating.
Thanks, Ronnie!
The following is the philosophy of Charles
Schultz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have to
actually answer the questions. Just read it straight through, and you'll
get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world. 2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners. 3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America. 4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. 5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. 6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners. How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners . Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one: 1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with . Easier? The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care . "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia " (Charles Schultz) Thanks again, Sweetie!

Good Vibrations
- Brian Wilson, 1966
I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Oom bop bop good vibrations)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
(Ahhhhhhh)
(Ah my my what elation)
I don't know where but she sends me there
(Ah my my what a sensation)
(Ah my my what elations)
(Ah my my what)
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin' with her
Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations
A happenin'
Ahhhhhhhh
Good good good good vibrations
