11/14/02 – Good News!

Dear Friends and Classmates,

It’s all good news today, praise be!

   Here’s a beautiful site from Buster Vest (’63) in VA – 11/12/02:

http://llerrah.com/america.htm

Thanks, Buster! Say, how was Beautiful Las Vegas - and Tom Jones?

From Alice Fowler Edwards (’64) in VA – 11/08/02:

I have GOOD NEWS!! As of 11 January 2003 I will be officially RETIRED and can begin a new life!!
Really enjoy checking out the NNHS web page.

   Great! That IS good news!

From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) in CA – 11/13/02:

I must confess, you have done such a super job on the website. Don't apologize for the
"unfinishedness"!!!! It's getting really great! Very exciting to ck out the new pics etc. from time to
time!

I will be coming out your way (sorta) 11/25 (the ol' red eye) to ck on my mom (alas, she is still in
Riverside Convalescent) and it's time they saw my face so I don't get so many conflicting reports!
It's always good to show up, especially when they think I'm so far away!!! (hee hee).

Also, some good news, my husband and I are moving to the East Coast in April (after tax season)!!!
YIIPPPPPEEEEE!!! I can't wait!! We will be in New Jersey - only a 40 minute flight away from NN
AND you can land at Patrick Henry! Hallelujah!!! God is truly good!

Well, better go eat, I might waste away to nothing!!! (HAHAHAHA)
Blessings, Sarah

PS - Anyone know where Ann Allen is? (our class)

Moving to NJ?!? Now, that is GREAT news! I’m excited!

And about Ann (or was it Anne?) It’s time we started looking for people again. I have a whole long list.
We’ll start on that in the next letter, perhaps.

From Me ('65) in NC – 11/14/02:

I changed the main page of the website once again to hopefully make it easier for you to access
the links and to determine when they were last changed all at once. If the links are indented and not
underlined, you must click on the “mother” link to access the page. I hope this helps.

From Edna Whitcomb Harrison ('65) in NN, VA – 11/13/02:

Carol,

Thanks for posting the photos that I took.
I am still amazed at how nice your website looks. You have put so much work into it and it shows.

Hugs, Edna

   My pleasure, thanks, Edna!

From Rip Collins ('65) in TN – 11/09/02:

By the way, I remember Ward Cash, but do not recall whatever happened
to him. I do not think he went to NNHS. Also, I think that Chippy (Chip) Clark was in Mrs. Hatcher's
class as well.

Ward definitely moved away, but I think only up to Hilton or somewhere. It seems to me he went to
Warwick, but that could very well be one of my many imagined memories.

And yes, certainly, Chippy was in our first grade class. Didn’t I say that? I had to do some recopying
on that letter, and may have accidentally erased his name in the process. If so, I am deeply sorry. I
certainly didn’t forget that.

Re Mystery #10,000 Hit Maker:

From Dave Arnold ('65) in Yorktown, VA – 11/13/02:

You might want to see if that hit came from Jeannie Collier Fitzgerald ('65) . I know she works in the
court in Gloucester County.

Hmmm. I did not know that.

From Jim Dossett (’66) in Fredericksburg, VA – 11/13/02 (in response to my point blank query
to him):

First of all, I loved your sister's attempt at trying to claim the honor. I AM in law enforcement with a local
government, but I'm not sure if our server is tied to the VA Judicial system's server. I will check it out. A
classmate of mine (and I believe a brother to a classmate of yours) IS a judge ... Steve Smith '66 ...
maybe he's the one. I will let ya know though if my work email goes through the VA Judicial System.

Take care and thanks for the site.

Oh ... Aderon Gibbs ('66) is a probation officer in NN, then there are a lot of cops from NNHS ..
Bill (Bear) Belt, Jimmy Hogan, Bill Roth.

I thought Steve Smith was still an attorney in partnership with his brother, Howard (’63), and Janet’s
('65) husband, whathisname. Has he been made a JUDGE now?!?

Buddy David (’61) (Frank Blechman’s - '65 - brother-in-law) is a judge. I contacted him last year
concerning ‘61’s reunion, but never heard back from him, so I don’t think that’s the most likely source either,
but that’s just my hunch.

@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@

Again from Jim Dossett (’66) in Fredericksburg, VA – 11/13/02:

... checked it out with computer services ... I'm NOT the mystery guest. However, I will be glad to split the
$10,000 prize with your sister.

WHOA! Am I slipping THAT much?!? Trust me, there ain’t no $10,000 reward for this!!! Or if there is, it
certainly isn’t coming from ME! (Those of you who are aware of my pathetic financial situation can stop that
hysterical laughter and pick yourself up off the floor now.) Actually, there isn’t even a $10.00 reward. No, I was
thinking instead of something I handcrafted. Having just attended a Craft Fair with my daughter and sister on
Saturday (Thanks, Eleanor!), I can honestly say it would probably retail for at least $10.00, but that would be
the extent of the whole resemblance. I suppose it’s possible that were I not so financially challenged, I might
not be such a legendary cheapskate. Then again, who knows?

@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@

From Frances Goodson Wang in MD – 11/10/02:

Pete Tench ('65) is a judge. Who uses that kind of server?

Frances

Actually, this is my best guess. The problem is I’ve no email address for him. He and Becky (Crank Tench -
'65) have no such account at home, and Pete does use a computer at work. I have their home address and
phone number. I could write them a real letter (like that’ll ever happen). I could call them, but that brings me
back to the cheapskate thing once again.

   Or YOU could call them!

@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@

Brenda Amos Williams ('62 - of VA) is back from her trip to Japan, and busily making update to the Class
of 1962 web page.

Welcome home, Brenda! How was the Far East?

@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@

From Pam Larmer Traugott (’62) in Lexington, VA – 11/09/02:

Dear Carol:
How very helpful you are to so many. Thanks for the several replies on the NNHS ‘62 site.

Enjoyed reading the message from Fred Mays ('60 - of VA). How do you get the fire under
them to reply like that?

Thanks for your imput.

Thanks, Pam – and Fred! I just provide a forum. Everyone else does the rest. Actually, most people
are afraid to write to me at all for fear I’ll broadcast it to the world. I do try to be discreet. It just doesn’t
always show!

@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@$@

From Wayne Stokes ('65) in Yorktown, VA – 11/08/02:

Hey, although I completely disagreed, I thought that you had written, the
reason escapes me, that you were no longer going to send cards. If I am
correct, I'm glad you reconsidered! It is reassuring to receive them. It
tells you that someone remembers and is thinking of you. Again, I thank YOU.

I could be wrong, but that's what I remember. Which reminds me, with a
twist, of some lyrics of an old song that went: "..I forgot to remember to
forget"., my twist to it is: I forgot to remember to remember! I think?

Anyway, continue to maintain your excellent work.

Heaven only knows what I actually said, but what I MEANT was I wasn’t sending Columbus Day cards
or Halloween cards. I’ll always try to send holiday cards if I find something I really like and can find the time
to send 85 copies or so. I’ll try to send birthday cards and anniversary cards as well. That’s where that
memory question comes back into play.

But I do believe I remember the words of the song to which I believe you are alluding. It sounds a lot like
“Remember” by Irving Berlin from 1925. I memorized it when I was ten, which is why I can still remember it:

Remember the night,
The night you said, "I love you,"
Remember?
Remember you vowed
By all the stars above you,
Remember?
Remember we found a lonely spot,
And after I learned to care a lot,
You promised that you'd forget me not,
But you forgot to remember.

And on that note (sorry for that pun – I was powerless to resist it) I shall leave you for now.

Take care.
Love to all, Carol
