Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Okay, maybe
there's no snow yet, but I'm freezing! I even wore my tall black
leather boots this morning. But I do have some spectacular
things for you tonight!

From Eric Huffstutler (BHS - '75) - 12/01/04:
Aha! So -
I did NOT imagine that earlier date for Nick's death! Sometimes I surprise
myself. Thanks, Eric. Please promise
me you'll never reveal to me the sources of all your wondrous information.
I'm trying to preserve the magic here. This is no time
of year for me to attempt to grow up - as though that effort would actually do
any good...

From Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 12/01/04:
Thanks,
Wayne Honey. I was never privileged myself to have Miss Helmer
for a teacher, but I've never heard anything
but good about her.

From Pam Smith Arnold ('65) of VA - 12/01/04:
Carol,
Well - we all agree that Steve Corum ('62 of
AL) was gorgeous. His mother, Libbie, was so sweet and very pretty
too.
They lived right across from Patsy (Blackard Hallett - '65 of VA) and
right down the street from me ...
in Stuart Gardens. And - see - if you
had come to see me this weekend, you could be here for the Grand Illumination.
Maybe next year!
Love - Pam
Wow - lucky you two!
And as soon as Linda (Lane
Lane - '64 of VA) mentioned Williamsburg's Grand Illumination, that was the
first thing which
crossed my mind - "This Nearly Was Mine." If you didn't hear me throwing a
fit when the realization came to me that I wouldn't be
attending 65's Reunion Committee Holiday Party and enjoying your hospitality
this weekend, it's only because I was out in public
and had to present some semblance of grace and maturity. Trust me, I would
have preferred to holler, scream, stomp my feet, pout,
and throw things like the Super Brat that I am. Sigh. I still say
maturity - like sleep and reality - is overrated. What's the point in
never
bothering to grow up if I have to PRETEND that I grew up?!? Sheesh.
Y'all have a wonderful time, and give my love to all! I'll keep my eye on my watch Saturday night and try to imagine that I'm there.

From Joe Drewry ('58) of VA - 12/02/04:
Thanks, Joe! Y'all have fun at your Holiday Dinner next week! (I'd crash your party, but I'm expecting company! HA-HA-HA!)

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 12/02/04:
Let's Jump Into The Wayback Machine.
Are you ready for a virtual ride on the Buckroe Roller Coaster? Good.
WOWZERONI!!!
David, you know I've always wanted my own
Time Machine, and I really think that
Buckroe Beach
Amusement Park in its heyday would
be the very first place I'd visit! Thanks so much for these amazing,
fabulous images! Don't
ever lose that magical top hat from whence you extract these treasures, Sweetie!
We would all be the poorer for it.

From Tom Flax ('64) of VA - 12/02/04:
YAHOO!!!
That is super spectacular news, Tom!
I can't think of a single reason
why a single one of you would NOT
want a copy of this production! Y'all place your orders now for some
great holiday enjoyment! Thanks so much for all your hard
work, Tommy! Best of everything to you and Nancy!

From Tom Flax ('64) of VA to Wayne Stokes ('65) of VA - 12/02/04:
Hey Wayne .... Just make the check out to me .... Thanks .... Tom
And thanks, Wayne and Tom, for that clarification!
From Pam Smith Arnold ('65) of VA - 12/02/04:
Carol,
Jeff and I were looking through the high school
pictures in our class that you have posted, and he said you were really hot!
Wow - from a 14-year-old! On the other hand, he said I had helmet hair. From the
mouths of babes - you can always count
on your kids for truth!
Love - your Cousin Pam

| Carol - Fall of 1964 | Pam - Fall of 1964 |
WOWZERS!!! Tell
Jeff he made my whole holiday season! Lest you think I added this just to
be self-serving (well, there is that,
too, I suppose - WILD GIGGLES!), let's think about this for a
moment. First of all, Pam was Head Cheerleader, Secretary of the
Student Council, a member of National Honor Society, and voted Most Popular in
our senior class, and I was basically, um, nothing.
But beyond that there's a
point I would like to make that's only beginning to dawn on me after forty
years, and I think it applies
to more of us than just me. I never thought I was anything more than just
barely passable. I'd give it my best shot, but when I looked
in the mirror, all I ever saw was the same ugly duckling that used to receive
unpleasant reactions and comments from my peers
in elementary school. When people told me later that I was pretty or even cute,
I assumed there was one of three reasons for it: they
were just trying to be kind or polite, they had really poor judgment and taste,
or they had ulterior motives. There were two fellas
in high school who actually always addressed me as "Beautiful", and I knew and
understood that they really believed that, but I
thought they were simply delusional.
I've come to realize that
many of y'all felt the same way about yourselves. I've been astonished to
learn that even many of you men
whom I always considered to be flat out gorgeous thought of yourselves as
"average-looking". I suppose it's possible that that very
humility is what made you even more attractive, because you were devoid of pride
and conceit.
But if I could give you any
gift this holiday season, it would be the sure knowledge that you are beautiful.
You were then, and you
are now. And as beautiful as you appear, your spirits are even more
beautiful.
Thanks, Pam - and Jeff!
You know - if I hadn't squandered the entire day by goofing off, I could have had a lot more things done for you - but I did have fun!
Y'all take care of each other!
Love to all, Carol

Sleigh Ride - Mitchell Parish, Leroy Anderson, 1948 Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring ting tingling too Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you, Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling "Yoo hoo," Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you. Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap, let's go, Let's look at the show, We're riding in a wonderland of snow. Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap, it's grand, Just holding your hand, We're gliding along with a song of a wintry fairy land. Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy cozy are we We're snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be Let's take that road before us and sing a chorus or two Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you. There's a birthday party at the home of Farmer Gray It'll be the perfect ending a perfect day We'll be singing the songs we love to sing without a single stop, At the fireplace while we watch the chestnuts pop. Pop! pop! pop! There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy, When they pass around the chocolate and the pumpkin pie It'll nearly be like a picture print by Currier and Ives These wonderful things are the things we remember all through our lives! Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring ting tingling too Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you, Outside the snow is falling and friends are calling "Yoo hoo," Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you. Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap, let's go, Let's look at the show, We're riding in a wonderland of snow. Giddy yap, giddy yap, giddy yap, it's grand, Just holding your hand, We're gliding along with a song of a wintry fairy land Our cheeks are nice and rosy and comfy cozy are we We're snuggled up together like two birds of a feather would be Let's take that road before us and sing a chorus or two Come on, it's lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.
